禪意水墨畫 Ink painting

一位畫家，一位智者，一個香港人耳熟能詳的名字。

阿虫原名嚴以敬，香港著名禪意水墨畫家，1933年生於廣州。

早年從事時事漫畫創作近20年，名噪一時。1984年舉家移民美國，開始以「阿虫」為名，用最謙和態度面對逆境，創作一系生活智慧小品，開創了禪意水墨漫畫的先河。

阿虫的畫，簡單淋漓筆墨，配有三言兩語機靈文字，畫中有話，蘊含生活哲理。閱後往往令人拍首頓悟、豁然開朗，走入無數喜愛他的讀者心靈，成為本港有名的畫家之一。

2018年8月11日因心臟衰竭於美國洛杉磯家中安詳離世，享年85歲。

Ah Chung is a renowned painter and philosopher in the local community. Ah Chung’s real name is Yim Yee King and was born in Guangzhou, China in 1933. He started his distinguished career in arts and gained popularity for his punchy political caricatures in local newspapers in Hong Kong for over 20 years. In 1984, he left Hong Kong and migrated to the United States with his family. He then adopted a modest alter ego to create a series of Chinese ink and color paintings and called himself “Ah Chung” (“insect”) because of his admiration for worms. He admired these little creatures for their great strength in survival even in the face of harsh environments.

The essence of Ah Chung’s style was revealed by his seemingly effortless brushstrokes and the way he enriched his paintings by adding lively and humorous depictions of his life philosophy, bringing us breathing space and food for thought in this busy world. The uniqueness of his works has won him many admirers and made him one of the most popular artists in Hong Kong.

Ah Chung suffered acute heart failure and died on August 11, 2018, at his Los Angeles home at age 85.
